WASM newsletter for April 23, 2018

Tuesday, April 24, 2018: Remember to come to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) from 1pm to 1:30pm!  And, our last WASM lecture of the season, 2017-18 with WASM member, Anne-Sylvie Groleau, Artist, on "the Color of Emotions" from 1:30 to 2:30pm. Look at the following link for more details: 
Free Seniors' Workshops at the MMFA on Thursdays either from 11am to 1pm or from 2pm to 4pm. The Theme for April is "Stained Glass Painting", playing with colors and light to make paintings that look like stained glass. If you are a MMFA member, you can call the MMFA at 514-285-2000 (Option 4) and tell them you would like to reserve a seat in the Seniors' workshop at either 11am or 2pm. They will email to you your reservation number or your free ticket. Then when you go to the MMFA at the front desk, you're all set. If you are not a member of the MMFA, get there early because these workshops fill up fast.
Fellow member, Avy Loftus, is giving a 2-day workshop on making batik jewelry at the MMFA from 9:30am to 4:30pm on Sat. April 29 and Sun. April 30, 2018. Look at the following link for more details:  
Congratulations to those artists who are in the Annual Members' Juried Art Show & Sale 2018. Posters (8.5 x 11 inches) will be available shortly.

Newsletter for April 16, 2018

The Judging Day, April 14, 2018 went very well. Judges: Caroline Lindsay Hart, Dorota Kozinska, and Jaber Lutfi. Artists will get their results by this Thursday, April 19 or Friday, April 20, 2018.
Tuesday, April 17, 2018: Our next lecture with Artist, Remrov, on "My Art and My Autism" from 1:30pm to 2:30pm at the Unitarian Church of Montreal / 5035 de Maisonneuve West. Just click on the following link to see more details about this artist:  
The Montreal Council of Montreal (MCW) April 2018 Bulletin. The MCW is an umbrella group, founded in 1893, which has the WASM as well as about 35 other Women's Groups under it as members. They have a lunch ($10) then a lecture the first Thursday of every month from Sept. to May at noon at 2700 Rufus Rockhead. You are most welcomed to attend.

Please note that the museum management allows designers to use color. Feel free to bring your watercolor boxes. In addition, you can sit on the benches and stools available to visitors. Arrival: 11:00 (a little later than usual, the museum opens its doors at 11:00; Meeting point: at the entrance of the museum, on the ground floor; Admission: voluntary contribution (suggested amount $ 10); Lunch at 12:30 pm. There is a Première Moisson restaurant at the Redpath Library, in the adjoining building at the Redpath Museum. There are also a few restaurants near the campus of McGill; Final meeting: 15:30. Fellow members, Veronica Dragnef (WASM Treasurer and Web Admin) and Diane Cardill, will be participating in a group of 150 artists this week at the Brossard City Hall. THURSDAY, April 19 — 12:30 to 1:30 pm. This is not really Arts related, but might be interesting for some. For the Atwater Library Lunchtime Series, lawyer Diane Skiejka of Éducaloi conducts an information session with Q&A on “Protect Your Money from Financial Abuse and Fraud.”
Thursday, April 19, 2018: Outing at the MMFA Workshop for Seniors (60+) from 2pm to 4pm. The Theme: "Stained Glass Painting" (Playing with colors and light to make paintings that look like stained glass.) We could meet at 1:50pm at the front desk to get our free tickets. Reminder to RSVP to say if you are entering 1 or 2 artworks for Judging Day, April 14, 2018 (deadline: April 12) including digital photos of your art. These photos have nothing to do with the judging day. Click on the following link to our WASM website, Art Exhibit page, to get info on the Judging Day. .
Cathy had this great memory the other day. She was looking at kids playing, and it reminded her of the times she and her sisters used to slide down their second-floor stairs. They would bump along down on our behinds. It was so much fun. Send in your great memories, and they will be forwarded to WASM members and be placed on the WASM Blog. If you have anything of interest to share with our WASM members, then please, do send them in. It could be also your favorite "must see" movie(s) (with short description), or your favorite "must read" book(s) (with short description), or your wonderful crafts, like quilting, sewing, knitting (with a little bio), the sky's the limit!

ART EXPO Martha Markowsky's Group of 12 painters exhibiting original paintings on Saturday, April 7 from 1 pm to 6 pm and Sunday, April 8 from 9 am to 4 pm. 
Resurrection of our Lord Church, parish hall, 34th Avenue, Lachine, QC. Follow the signs. This is a fundraiser for the church.  Tea room on location.  Everyone welcome.

Fellow member Anne-Sylvie Groleau invites you to visit her solo exhibit “Canapy” at L’Espace contemporain 5175 Papineau (corner Laurier), Montreal, March 27-April 1, 2018. The vernissage will be on March 30th from 6-8PM.
Tuesday, March 27, 2018: Our next Lecture with Marie Leconte, PhD candidate in English Studies. Title: "What is Anglo-Quebecois Literature?" How did this literature emerge in a province where the English language is so fraught with social and political strife? This will be an interesting, informative and enlightening lecture. The Holiday Village display at Ogilvy's has been donated to the McCord Museum, along with a donation of $50,000 to help in its upkeep. Take a look at the following link to a pdf with full details.

Atwater Library Lunchtime Series, renowned editor, publisher, and author Douglas Gibson, presents "GREAT SCOTS: Canada’s Greatest Storytellers with Scottish Links." The McGill University Chair in Canadian-Scottish Studies is co-hosting this special event.
Tuesday, March 27, 2018: Presentation by former WASM speaker of 2017, Marianna Armata, Photographer. Title: "A Fresh Perspective on Macro Photography" from 7:30 to 9pm at the Dollard Library at the Civic Centre / 12001 de Salaberry Blvd / DDO.
Recently returning, fellow member, Iby Siemens, has been a porcelain painter for many years. She says, "It is such a great art, especially as they make such wonderful presents, which can be personalized with initials. Last spring, as a volunteer, I taught porcelain painting to some seniors at Manoir Westmount (I am a Rotary member.). They were delighted, realizing that their creations would become heirlooms." Recently Iby has started with acrylics on canvas. A painting that she did entitled "Iby Siemens: Painting 2009" was at the 2009 WASM Art Show at Ogilvy’s Tudor Hall.
